History of Savage

The establishment of this community was due in large part to the Minnesota River and its ability to transport goods to and from it. In 1852, a small trading post was created at the junction of the Credit River and the Minnesota River.  From this small trading post, a small community grew.  The area was initially called Hamilton.  The city changed its name to Savage in honor of Marion Willis Savage who owned and trained a successful and celebrated racing horse known as Dan Patch.

Restaurants & Nightlife

Buffalo Tap Restaurant – nice place to eat burgers and fries. They carry both Coke and Pepsi product. The cheese curds are awesome. There is a kid’s menu with varied choices.  Beer selection is good and do try the Juicy Lucy and the Wisconsin Burger.

Flavor at the Depot Restaurant  —  The pho is absolutely amazing. It is a nice place to have lunch, study or hang out. Do also try the Mexican Scramble very delicious and the portions are quite generous.

Windmill Café Restaurant — If you are looking for a cozy dining experience then this café is the place to go. Breakfasts are great, good portions and reasonably priced. Do try the ham and cheese omelette. Place can get packed so be early if you can.

Fun Things to Do In Savage

Arts & Culture  — there are annual events that include a juried art show and competition called the Minnesota Arts Fair and the Scott County Art Crawl.

Farmers Market – Beginning June 4 and lasting until October 29, 2017, the farmers market happens every Sunday between 8 am till 1 pm. Check out barbecues, locally grown fruits and veggies as well as some fun entertainment.

Swimming Pool – the city is partners with Life Time Fitness to offer residents access to the latest fitness machines including indoor and outdoor pool facilities without having to be members.
