History of Wayzata MN

In 1852, two pioneer families settled on the present area of Wayzata, one of them being the family of Oscar E. Garrison. Garrison constructed a cabin at what is now the intersection of Lake Street and Broadway Avenue in downtown Wayzata. In 1854 he sketched a survey of the area and filed a claim for most of present-day Wayzata proper. Wayzata was officially recognized later that year. By 1855 an influx of settlers came to the area and established a sawmill, hotel and blacksmith shop. In 1881, Wayzata separated from the Minnetonka Township to become a separate entity. During the 1950s, Wayzata increased in size mainly when it annexed land from Minnetonka, Plymouth and Orono.

McCormick’s Irish Pub and Restaurant – The restaurant offers a fun bar area as well as a more formal dining room. Staff is friendly and not rushed. Try the lobster roll served with soup and salad. The flat bread with sausage is also quite tasty.

CoV Wayzata – They offer the best rib sliders, Caesar salad and Cobb salad in the city. They also have an amazing view of the Lake Minnetonka. Do try the wonderful lobster guacamole.

Fun Things to Do in Wayzata MN

Dakota Trail – a 13.5 mile long paved regional trail that winds around Lake Minnetonka, through Wayzata, Orono, Minnetonka Beach, Spring Park, Mound, Minnetrista and St. Bonifacious. Offers ample parking and amenities.

Wayzata Beach – located in downtown Wayzata on Lake Minnetonka and is a public beach. It features a sandy beach and grassy peninsula, shaded picnic sections, playground equipment for the kids, canoe racks, stand-up paddleboard rentals, volleyball court, boat slips and playing fields.

Recreation & Enrichment Programs – the city is partners with Minnetonka Community Education to offer recreation and enrichment programs for youth and adults.
