History of Hastings MN

The land around Hastings originally was settled by a military detachment from Fort Snelling sent in to safeguard a blocked shipmen of supplies during the winter of 1820. Lieutenant William Glover camped in an area that was later to become Oliver’s Grove and by 1833, a trading post was established. After the Treaty of Mendota in 1851 that allowed white settlers, the area that was Oliver’s Grove was surveyed and incorporated into a city in 1857. The city got its name from suggestions drawn out of a hat placed by several of the founders.

The Onion Grille — They serve the best liver and onions in town. Menu offers a nice selection of food. Do try the beef stroganoff. Staff is attending and the ambience is fantastic.

Wiederholt’s Supper Club — From the moment you walk in you are instantly greeted. Cocktails are served promptly and the serving size was good and the taste refreshing. The tenderloin and shrimp is cooked perfectly and with generous portions too. Amazing menu selection and price points.
