History of Farmington Minnesota

Empire Township was the settlement that Farmington grew up in back in the 1850s. The Dakota village located on the intersection of the Minnesota Central, Hastings and Dakota railroads as well as the Vermillion River. Farmington station was a popular station in Dakota City and non-residents and visitors began calling and even identifying the town as Farmington instead of Dakota. Eventually the townspeople simply changed the name to Farmington. It received its village charter in 1872, which made it the 2nd oldest community in Dakota County just after Hastings, the county seat.

Restaurants & Nightlife in Farmington MN

El Charro – The food is always served hot and fresh. The margaritas are absolutely amazing and the tacos are the best in town. Service with a smile. Do also try the green chili sauce enchiladas. They have amazing chips and salsa.

Weng’s Kitchen – the restaurant offers amazing food at a price that is easy on the pocket. The serving size is also very generous with plenty of leftovers to take home. Definitely one of the best Chinese food places in the city. The lunch buffet is good value for money if you are craving Chinese.

Farmington Steakhouse — The place looks like a restaurant from the 1970s but don’t let that fool you as it is part of its charm. Great food and no frills basic service. Food is affordable but in generous portions. The steak and gyros are absolutely fantastic. Try also the pork tenderloin, chicken and fish sandwiches.

Fun Things to Do in Farmington MN

Dakota County Fairgrounds – The city hosts the event with entrances on 220th street (Ash) and along Highway 3 (Chippendale Avenue. This is the biggest in area featuring 360 acres as opposed to 300 for the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. The Dakota County Fairgrounds also has the biggest attendance in the state with an average of 125,000 visitors annually.
